Kranky Programs
& Methodology

Overview

The Kranky Thumb Collective is designed to encourage individuals to redefine their relationships with screened devices, social media, and AI for 1) the sake of our collective mental health and well being, 2) our humanity, 3) and the health of the natural world. To accomplish this mission we have developed a unique approach to our collection of programs that are focused on rediscovering our humanness by:

  • Engaging in practices that reconnect us to our bodies and our senses. These practices are grounded in acts of making, contemplation, reflection, and storytelling.

  • Interrograting the “deeper Whys” of our screened devices, social media, and AI usage.

  • Developing an understanding of how screened devices, social media, and AI impact our ability to make meaning as well as to heal from past traumas.

  • Building what we call “meaning-making muscles” that replace our previous screen, social media, and AI usage with practices that can lead to finding deep meaning in our lives.

Below is an outline of our core Kranky programs:

Drawn to This:
A Weekly Practice of Hand
& Heart

Drawn to This: A Weekly Practice of Hand and Heart are contemplative drawing live sessions where folks reflect, draw together, and then share, if they like. The weekly prompts are designed to encourage participants to reconnect to their bodies and their senses through deep acts of making. Drawing here may involve sketching with a pencil, crayons, or colored pencils; assembling images into a collage, or even pulling out those water colors and painting. No artist skills are required.

During each live session participants have an opportunity to discover how to draw all sorts of fun creatures, parts of the human body, found objects, you name it! Drawn to This is a safe and encouraging space to share in collective making. The Drawn to This live drawing sessions are held each Wednesday, Noon - 1pm EST and now each Saturday 9 AM - 10 AM EST.

Twice a month, contemplative drawing prompts (and other goodies) are published in the Drawn to This newsletter. To receive the newsletter sign up below.

The Drawn to This live sessions and newsletter are free programs and publications powered by The Kranky Thumb Collective!

Digital Wellness & Meaning-Making Chaplaincy
COMING THIS FALL

The Digital Wellness & Meaning-Making (DWMM) Chaplaincy is professional development training focused on accompanying individuals who are experiencing digital distress to a place of restoration where new screened-device usage and social media practices are cultivated. DWMM focuses on:

  • Empowering individuals to discover the “deeper Whys” of screened device, social media, and AI usage.

  • Equipping individuals with the practices needed to replace existing screen and social media usage with restorative meaning-making practices.

  • Cultivating intentional screen usage practices so that screened devices become the communication tools they are designed to be.

DWMM will be hosted in partnership with The School of Global Citizenry as a CEU-certified program.

Join the 2026 Pilot Cohort

We are seeking 10-15 chaplains, ministers, and spiritual care providers to participate in our Fall 2026 pilot program. Sign up for pilot updates and the waitlist.

This foundational program is based on decades of professional research and work with screened technologies, social media, and AI. It is a step-by-step process and practice—outlined in the book
Finding Your Way Back to You: Making Meaning in a Screen-Filled World—that guides participants from discovering the "deeper Whys" of their screen usage toward uncovering their truest selves. The goal of this curriculum is to empower individuals to rediscover who they are, who they want to be in this chaos-filled world, and what gives their life meaning.

The KTC goal is to organize Finding Your Way groups throughout the U.S. and around the world. These groups meet both in person and online. A KTC trained trek leader facilitates a 7-week workshop where participants walk through each step of the core curriculum together. With new intentional screen usage practices in hand participants can maintain their accountability together in the KTC Discord server. The photographs below are from the Finding Your Way Ohio group facilitated by the minister of Kranky Transformation, Erin Hutchison. Sign up today to participate in a Finding Your Back to You Group!
